ADVERTISING & MARKETING (ADMA) STUDENTS’ COMMENT

Fr. Errol Fernandes, SJ, Vice-Principal of St. Xavier’s College (Commerce) with a beautiful presentation explained to us the history and legacy of St. Ignatius of Loyola (Founder of the Society of Jesus) through which he gave us important values and the Jesuit Ethos to inculcate in our lives. The one hour session by Fr. Terrence Quadros educated and inspired the students to apply creativity in their day to day growth, to create self awareness and to be responsible media profession.
An ice-breaker session conducted by Fr. Gordon Daniells involved a series of interactive and fun filled games which helped the fresher’s at XIC get acquainted with each other.

When I entered the gates of XIC, I made a promise to myself. I promised myself that I’d remained focused, focused enough to absorb as much knowledge as I could from all around this coveted institute. And that I did, I managed to have the best 9 months of my life.
 - Aditi Mohile (AM 09-10)

At XIC, I have learnt of new things that have enriched my understanding of the world around me. As I am about to set foot in the outside world, I feel empowered to be an XIC alumnus (Soon).

XIC aims at grooming students to be professionals who contribute to global wellbeing. For this, it is very important that we adhere to basic human values, which are also the foundation of XIC. XIC has enriched me, not only academically, but also as a human being. My interaction with fellow-students and faculty has left me with fine memories and values to last me a lifetime! I owe a lot to XIC…

JOURNALISM (JR) STUDENTS' COMMENT

Alumni Meet
The final event was a joint alumni meet, organized for all the courses, as several dignitaries such as Lata Hegde, Sanskar Desai, Velly Thevar and Siddhartha Butalia were introduced by Jeanne DeSa, Alumni Relations. They encouraged the students to work hard yet enjoy the year ahead, advising us to “drop our ifs”, discard passivity and adopt the role of leaders in society. Personally speaking, I think I speak for the entire JR batch as well as other courses, as I thank the entire XIC for organizing this three day orientation, welcoming us all in, making us a part of their great history. I leave you with a quote from Ms. Jane Swamy, as she succinctly put it, “to read is to lead, to lead is to read.”

Priyanka Sharma ( JR 2010)

TELEVISION & VIDEO (TV) STUDENTS’ COMMENT

Finally, quotes made by the speakers:
Quoting David Brinkley – “Happiness of life depends on quality of thought. “Only thing that can’t be recycled is wasted time” “Growing up is mainly growing out of our comfort zones” “The goal is not to run faster than others but to run one’s own fastest” “Make friends with students from other courses as this might be the only time you’d get to interact with them.” “Know the rules break them, go berserk with creativity”
- Simran Singh (FT 2010)

I was looking for a course in film-making after completing my graduation and I found that XIC offers one of the best! The film course has given a strong foundation as well as confidence which are very much required in the industry. I was able to decide which area of film-making I wanted to make a career in, after finishing the course I got placed from XIC..
- Disha Nayak(FT 09-10)

The Film course has given me the confidence to handle work and tackle pressure apart from imparting the craft of film making. The past one year has been an enriching experience. The institute has given the best exposure that one can get in 10 months. That apart, it has given me good memories of an amazing batch - FT 09-10!
- Sairam S. ( FT 09-10)

XIC has prepared me well for my career. Apart from technical knowhow XIC also helped me understand the dynamics under which a unit or crew operates. I would definitely recommend the Film / TV & Video Production Course to others. It helped me understand the qualities and values that constitute a successful professional..
- Vijay Prateek Modekurti (FT 09-10)

PUBLIC RELATIONS (PR) STUDENTS’ COMMENT

The PR course has given me that extra edge not only to survive in the media industry, but also to give it all I can.
- Karishma Desai (PR 09-10)

XIC has been a great learning experience and has contributed tremendously towards my professional and personal growth.
- Sonali Walia (09-10)

Fr. Lawrie’s speech was very current and relevant to today’s times and I really liked the way the theme of Biodiversity was woven into his speech. I also enjoyed the way he used music (Raise me Up) to recognize God’s role in our lives. He ended with the message “Unity in Diversity,” which is extremely important to all of us who live in a plural and multiethnic country.

Jane Swamy, Dean of Studies
Ms. Swamy’s speech was unique in the sense that she actually gave us examples of how people can be creative (by quoting David Brinkley). At the same time, she also gave us examples of inspirational people like Ramnath Goenka, Editor of the Indian Express. She stressed the role of honesty and integrity in our work, which I thought was a great way to welcome us to the world of responsible media communicators.
- Gayatri Ganesh ( PR 2010)
