XIC 1970 - 2010

Alumni Achievement Awards
for professional excellence in media and
communication
In the year 2009-2010 the Xavier Institute of
Communications celebrates its fortieth year of contributing to
professional education in the media. Our database tells us that no less
than 3000 students have passed through our portals, students for a year
(or sometimes less), but alumni for life.
From January 2009, year by year, we plan to
felicitate those of our alumni who have distinguished themselves in the
field by their professional excellence, by the quality of their
contributions through media to society, by their creative expression in
audio-visuals and print.
We expect that those nominated for the awards will
have regional or national standing in their respective areas of
excellence, and that their work has social and humanitarian value.
XIC will team up with a corporate sponsor to bestow
two prizes for professional excellence of Rs one lakh each, with a
citation and an emblem. These awards are one for the print media, and
the other for audio-visuals.
By print media we include the wide field of writing,
publishing, news-reporting, editorial work, graphic design and cartoons.
The audio-visual media similarly has a wide umbrella: music, film
(features and documentaries), television and video, radio, the internet
and the new media.
The awards will be presented in the first week of
January 2009 (exact date to be announced shortly) at the XIC, St
Xavier's College campus.
Eligibility and Nominations
Nominations can be made through the nomination
form attached online. Nominations can be made either by an
individual or by an institution (in the latter case the head of the
institution will nominate). Further, one may nominate oneself as well as
another. There is no entry fee, but only an alumnus/a of the XIC is
eligible. Such a person must have done either a diploma or a certificate
course at the Institute sometime in the past.
Those nominating must ensure that the person nominated accepts this
designation and will comply with the terms and conditions of the awards.
Selection
The nominations will be scrutinized by a select panel and the final
choice communicated to the recipient. The agreement of the recipient is
necessary before the award is announced. In all cases, the decision of
the jury panel is final and may not be appealed against in court of law.
The present staff and students of XIC may not be nominated for any
award.
